    CITY / JAZZ : Re-Setting ECU & Re-Calibrate CVT

There’s some Honda City or Jazz/Fit owners didn’t know that when they (someone/mechanics) are take-off the car’s terminal battery will be reset the car’s ECU and the CVT gearbox which will affects the engine’s performance and fuel consumption.

This is why you need to reset the ECU and recalibrate the CVT's start-up clutch 'release' position, because engagement of the start-up clutch (when you shift from P or N into D) is via hydraulics and activated by the ECU via sensors, once you reset the ECU, you need to let it detect when the start-up clutch is at full engage (what they call 'lock-up') and when it's at full release.

The best way to do this is to get your Honda service center to do it as there is a specific procedure for it. If you don't, the ECU may not have the start-up clutch in the fully released or fully engaged positions when it needs to be and you may end up with very bad fuel consumption.

This has actually been reported by a number of owners who has been reset their ECU without doing the proper CTV recalibration procedure. They have reported poor engine’s performance & very bad fuel consumption but it was solved after the Honda service center did the proper recalibration procedure for them.

Now days, people are already knew how to resetting the Honda car’s ECU but doesn’t know about recalibrating the CVT gearbox which this is might be the one of the reasons for some City & Jazz/Fit owners had a start-up clutch failure that has been reported.

Below is the right proper procedure for resetting & recalibrating ECU/CVT, hope all City & Jazz owners will be noticed the gain performance & fuel economy.

RESETTING ECU & CALIBRATING CVT GEARBOX PROCEDURE.

    a) Take off the positive (+) cable terminal from the car’s battery including all car accessories and all fuses of car audio to prevent electrical power coming from audio’s capacitors.

    b) Switch-on the car’s headlamps for 10 to 15 minutes to discharge the remaining electrical power inside the car’s ECU (even better if you leave the car overnight).

    c) Switch-Off the car’s headlamp & re-installed the positive (+) cable terminal to the car’s battery.

    d) Start the engine but DO NOT switch-on your air-conditioner, audio/radio, lights, and other electrical stuff. Let the engine runs until the engine’s cold-indicator is off (approx. 15 to 20 minutes) or until the engine reached its normal temperature (usually recognized when the radiator’s fan is turn-on).

    e) Switch-Off the engine and Restart it again.

    f) Switch-On the car’s front headlamps.

    g) Shift the gear from “P? to 'N' while stepping on the brake.

    h) Shift the gear between 'N' to 'D' to 'S' to 'L' then from 'S' to 'D' and back to 'N' again.

    i) Repeated this Gear’s shifting (h) process about 3 times with approximately 1-2 seconds between the gears shifting.

Please be kindly reply back to this forum after resetting & recalibrating your car’s ECU & CVT gearbox to reports its performance & fuel economy. Thanks…
